6 Reasons to Use Epoxy Resin for Pipe Relining
There are different materials, compounds and resins that can be used for pipe relining. Each one of them has their own strength and weakness. When choosing a pipe liner, you should choose the one that will give you lesser problems, more edge, more advantage, lesser maintenance trouble and even lesser bill statement. You have to always mind the good viewpoints in choosing a material that will be used in the reinforcement of one of the most integral part of your plumbing system. Here are the qualities of an epoxy resin you should know about:
Epoxy resins when cured into place, do not produce a foul odour. It is relatively safe for supply lines because of its odourless nature. Unlike some of the compounds making up a pipe, epoxy offers you odourless water right from the very first time you open the tap after a pipe relining.
Can be used without external heat.
While most resins need direct exposure steam or heat to solidify, epoxy resin does not. Epoxy resin is delicately balanced with an exclusive pair of hardener on a 1:1 ratio. You cannot replace the hardener it comes with another that advertises lesser hardening time or displace the ratio by adding more hardener thinking that this will make the curing process faster. It won’t. What this will do is ruin the composition of the substance. When this happens, some parts of the epoxy resin will harden while others remain sticky and wet indefinitely.
Controllable pot time.
Pot time is a jargon used by plumbers to refer to the length of time that passes before the resin cures. With epoxy resin, its pot time can be manipulated based on the factors that will affect the curing time such as the difficulty in feeding the lining assembly to the host pipe, the actual length of the pipe and other things to consider. Although its pot time can be manipulated, epoxy resin mixtures for Cured-In-Place-Pipe method still has to be mixed on site a few moments before it is to be used.
Safe for consumption.
Unlike most resins, epoxy resin is safe for consumption. The epoxy compound used on the liners is the same food grade as the ones used in the inside walls of canned goods. You know that it can be safe. Now, you are appeased that these relines pipes can be used as water supply lines in homes, residential complexes and commercial buildings.
Eliminates asbestos abatement.
Asbestos abatement is the process of controlling fibre release in a building by encapsulating, encasing or through removal. This process is totally not needed with epoxy resin. You do not have to worry about this matter because using epoxy resin alone eliminates it for you.
Not a temporary fix.
Pipe relining, although it is easily done and takes very few hours to do, is not a temporary fix. Epoxy resin is not a band aid to the damaged one but rather, this is a new pipe. Pipe relining creates a solid and functional pipe that can replace the old and battered host pipe.
